Well I've FINALLY got our first Exchange 2007 installation (hub/CAS) into
our organization. I was a little nervous about the possibility of
disrupting our Exchange 2003 internal and internet mail, but everything
worked perfectly.

However, in the new server, I'm occasionally seeing some errors in the
system log from the "sidebyside" system. It starts out with one or two
error 32:

"Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC could not be found and Last Error
was The referenced assembly is not installed on your system."

Then it will have one or more error 59:

"Resolve Partial Assembly failed for Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC. Reference error
message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system."

Or:

"Generate Activation Context failed for
C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\amd64_Microsoft.VC80.MFC_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.762_x-ww_6E02DFE5\MFC80U.DLL.
Reference error message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your
system."

The system is Exchange 2007 SP1 Enterprise, with Windows 2003 Enterprise
sp2.

I've done some internet searching, but haven't seen anything that seems to
apply.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Mike O.

Unfortunately that hotfix is not the answer. It's referencing issues with
WinLogon and WinHTTP on a on a terminal server. It's also for an older
version of windows (2003 Sp1) than what we have (sp2). The exe and dll on
the fix are several versions older than the exe and dll on our system.

The error we're hitting is with the Microsoft Foundation Class (Visual C
version 8?).

The closest I've seen is a similar error on SQL2005 and the solution is to
reinstall the C++ 2005 run time library, but I'm not sure if that's the
solution for us, since we don't have SQL on this server.

If I don't find anything else, I'll probably go ahead and install the C++
run time library. I just hate putting extra stuff on an Exchange box.

Exchange 2007 is heavily based on the .NET framework, so maybe this issue
actually *is* related to missing .NET assemblies...

That's pretty much what I figured, that much (or all?) of Exchange is in
C++, I'm just surprised all the parts didn't get installed properly since
it's a new, clean setup.

The articles I found referenced the C++ run time, I'll probably try that
tomorrow.

I was focusing more on the mailbox servers today, it doesn't look like error
is showing up on those, only the Hub/CAS server.
