i'd like to create different RUS filters for different OUs.

for e.g.

1. i've got a OU company1 - all nickname=* must get the mailaddress
user2@company1.com
2. i've got a OU company2 - all nickname=* must get the mailaddress
user1@secondcompany2.org

how is this possible?

i tryed - but i've done a mistake and all users got all company
mailadresses... i don't like to remove them from all users/groups a second
time and i don't have a testsystem Sad(((.

Greetings
Alex

That's not RUS, that's a Recipient Policy.
You can't remove the addresses except manually but you can create
recipient policies tailored as you would like.

You don't want different RUS's (Recipient Update Services), you want
different Recipient Policies. Pull up your Default Recipient policy and
then hit F1 (Help). It should give you all the information you need about
Recipient policies and how to filter them based on Users or Groups, or
whatever you want.

What you can do is populate any of the AD properites for the users with
something that indicates that they are in OU1 or 2, and use this to key off
of for the Recipient policy. Or you can use the filter property Logon under
the User properties. This will use the UPN extension if they are different
for each of the OU's.

You cannot create an LDAP filter based on OU, why not use one of the other
attributes, such as Department or Company.

Another option would be to create a group in each OU and then place the
users in that OU into the group and then create the filter based on group
membership.

Don't make recipient policies based on OUs (or group memberships)
They should be created based on custom attribute, company name, database
location, UPN, etc....

Althought the interface allows you to set your filter to OU, this simply
doesn't work.

296112 XADM: Cannot Use Organizational Unit or Location of an Account for
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=296112

You should set your filter for a custom attribute or another unique
attribute instead of OU.

Hi Alex,

What you will need to do is create a different Recipient Policy. The
following article should help you set this up.

Hi Alex,

You don't say what you originally tried to filter on but you can't filter on
OU. You need to filter on some attribute such as an extension attribute
that you populate with a 3 letter abbreviation of the company name.

Hi, Alex.

This doesn't work well with groups, because when you change the group
membership of a user it's actually an update to the group, not the user.
That is, USNChanged on the group will increase but USNChanged on the user
won't, because the user just has a backlink to the group. As a result, after
the user's group membership is changed, the RUS will not process the user to
reflect the change until you make a change to the user or run a Rebuild.

This is discussed in the following:

304516 XADM: Address List Filter Based On Group Membership Does Not Apply
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=304516

Instead, a better way to do it is to highlight users in the particular OU
and give them all a custom attribute that is unique to that OU. You can do
this manually, or if you have many objects, you might use a utility called
ADMODIFY by contacting PSS. Then, you can create the filter to match that
particular custom attribute.

Actually, you can do this based on Groups, although it's better to do it
with UPN. The trick is to use the Group's DN (instead of Name) as part of
the Filter.

For Examples:
Create 2 Groups called "CompanyA_Recipients" and "CompanyB_Recipients" in
the "ThisOU" OU
Then for COMPANYA, create the following Recipient Policy:

(&(&(&(& (mailnickname=*) (|
(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(!(homeMDB=*))(!(msExchHomeServer
Name=*)))(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(|(homeMDB=*)(msExchHome
ServerName=*)))(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=contact))(objectCategor
y=group)(objectCategory=publicFolder) )))(objectCategory=user)(memberOf=CN=C
ompanyA_Recipients,OU=ThisOU,DC=MyDomain,DC=com)))

Then for COMPANYA, create the following Recipient Policy:

(&(&(&(& (mailnickname=*) (|
(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(!(homeMDB=*))(!(msExchHomeServer
Name=*)))(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(|(homeMDB=*)(msExchHome
ServerName=*)))(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=contact))(objectCategor
y=group)(objectCategory=publicFolder) )))(objectCategory=user)(memberOf=CN=C
ompanyB_Recipients,OU=ThisOU,DC=MyDomain,DC=com)))

Put the users in the appropriate Groups. Make sure your Default Policy is
the last on the list of Policies.
