Hi all,

We have Exchange 2000 running on Windows 2000 cluster. Both Exchange
and Windows have the latest security patches installed. Exchange is
running smoothly but a couple of times now, Exchange failed and we are
unable to find the root caused of the problem, I am suspecting that the
Search Instance is the culprit but have an definate prove yet. When I
looked at the cluster.log this is what I see first before any other
errors:

"An error occurred in the resource status monitor for instance
: 800706be - The remote
procedure call failed."

Why do I have this error? Can this Search Instance be disabe without
affecting Exchange in any negative way?

Any feed back is greatly apprecated. Thank you all in advance for your
time.

Cuong

Start by unchecking the "affect the group" checkbox for the Search resource.
That way when Search fails it will remain in a failed state without bringing
the entire EVS over to another node.
Next time the Search resource fails you will be able to troubleshoot it
without affecting the stability of the Exchange cluster

Hi, thanks for the feedback, but the checkmark for "affect the group"
was uncheck for all the Exchange resources (services), except for the
System Attendant and Information Services.

Is it safe for me to disable the Search Instance all together without
affecting Exchange adversely?

Thanks again.

If ti is unchecked then it will not cause any other resource in the group to
fail.
It sound like there may be something else happening.

AFAIK Search is only requried to be online if you require Full Text
Indexing.
