Do you have to have an aplication such as IBM IBD or Veritas to run
volume shadow copy?

I'm setting up exchange 2003 with clustering.

The other question is on a active/passive cluster environment if I have
a backup solution with a tape library. Can I attach the tape library to
the active server or passive serverand have the Veritas backup software
run on the same server? Does it cause any problems? I've heard
conflicting information on this. I've heard that you need to have a
separate server for backups because it causes problems due to the heart
bit of the cluster.

I hope you can shed some light on this issue. Thanks, Zelia

VSS works with your hardware and backup software vendors. You really to
design a solution with them.

Backups - The best way is to attach to the SAN and perform a direct backup.
If that is not possible, never run the backup software from a clustered
node. Run across the wire against the Virtual Server name and use $ for the
drive letters. A dedicated backup network is a great idea. Ensure you get a
system state backup from every node.

Is there an issue if I backup the Servers' OS and configuration that
sits on the C drive?

I'd rather not have to reinstall the OS and Exchange if for any reason
I loose one of the servers. Let me know. Thanks again. ZM

Always make sure you get backups of the nodes, yes the C Drive should be
part of that along with the system state.

Just test everything before you go into production.
