got the error below when sending to a comcast.net email account.
It is a user's home email address, and he swears the address is correct, but
this appears to me to indicate that the user does not exist? Or is it some
kind of relaying error?
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server.
Please contact your system administrator.

5.5.0 is a generic error.
"551 not our customer" is a respond from the remote server.
Try doing a telnet and nslookup and make sure that it is pointing to the
right mx and it can establish a smtp connection.

thanks for the reply.
Funny thing is, it cleared up on its own. One person here was sending to a
comcast email account and got this error, I sent to the same account, same
error. 30 minutes later I send to my personal comcast account and it
works, then ask the user to try again sending to the one that was returning
the error, and it worked as well. I guess the issues were on the comcast
server?

Hi Gary
This behavior occurs if the destination server cannot resolve the domain
that you are using as your return address. For example, if your server's
domain is "nonexistantdomain.com," and you are trying to deliver a message
to a domain called "destinationdomain.com," and this domain has Reverse
Lookup enabled on its SMTP server, mail delivery will fail. This occurs
because the destination server will perform a reverse lookup on
"nonexistantdomain.com," and then it will stop the SMTP conversation.
Reverse Lookup causes additional overhead on servers, but is commonly used
to help prevent environments from getting unsolicited e-mail messages
(spam).
If you want to verify that this is the problem you are having, telnet to
the remote server's SMTP port, and attempt an SMTP conversation
For information on how to telnet port 25 check this link
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;153119
Thank you
Regards
