Dear experts,
I continue to have a problem in a Mixed mode Exch 5.5 and Exch 2000
sending a message to a user with no SMTP address, just X.400. The message
is rejected.
Here is the Scenario:
W2K Forest with 3 domains. All domains are conected with the RGC ( Site
Conector) ONLY.
Parent Domain A. Exchage 5.5
Child Domain B Exchange 2000
Child Domain C Exchange 5.5 ( I have a user with NO SMTP address,
just X.400 address)
When I send an email from domain B (Exch 2000) to a user in Domain C(
Exch5.5) the message is NDR. I'm sending the message to a user with no SMTP
address. The user only has X.400 address. Below is the NDR message error:
--------
Some recipients did not receive your message.
......
......
Unable to find the e-mail address. It's possible that the recipient has
moved to a different org... Check the address and send it again.
------
The only KB article I have found that might give me a solution is
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;247121&Product=exch2k
But I want to avoid adding another SMTP address( internal) to the
organization.
When I send the email from domain A to domain C..( no problems).
I'm missing something here....

Juan,
with Exchange 2000 and 2003, the default messaging protocol is SMTP...I
don't believe there is anyway to make Exchange 2000 or 2003 work for a user
with no SMTP address...

Thanks SUSAN,
Inicially that is what I thought after reading the KB article 247121,
however, I was corrected by one of the MS Exchange Online Engineers,
indicating that Exchange does interpret X.400 addressing. I have set the
the MSExchangeMTA log to maximum.. then I resend the message.. and this is
what I receive...
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MSExchangeMTA
Event Category: X.400 Service
Event ID: 209
Date: 06/11/2002
Time: 10:01:55
User: N/A
Computer: I03C0002
Description:
Global domain identifier (Country, ADMD, PRMD) in first Trace
Information of message C=es;A=;P=zzz;L=S92C79770211060901WLKK046C does not
match MTSID value. [
MTSID. [MTA XFER-IN 11 40] (12)
Any clarifications on the original question or the cause of this error would
be gratefull.

Hello Lynn,
There is no single account that has the problem. It's ALL the accounts on
Domain C that don't have an SMTP address. It happens will ALL of them.
When I send a message from Domain A to any of those accounts the email is
delivered. The SITES are connected by SITE Connectors only (RGC).
Have you asked any of the Exchange Support team ?
Thanks,
