I am having problems connecting through Windows Messenger 5.1 to the
Exchange 2000 Messenging service.

1) If I enable the proxy settings in IE7, I receive the following error
message:

SOCKS 5 proxy authentication failed. Check the SOCKS 5 settings for
User name and password on the Connection tab.

2) If I disable the proxy settings in IE7, (or have subsquently
Bypassed proxy for local addresses) I receive the following error
message:

Exchange Instant Messaging Sign-in Failure

The email address does not match the user name and password of the
person logged in to this computer. Make sure you provide the correct
user name, password and domain for this email address.

Not sure what to do next??
