Good morning all:

I've got two servers. #1 is a Win2K DC running AD, DNS, DHCP and RAS. #2
is a Win2K DC running Wins and Exchange 2003.

I'm expanding my network and building two new Win2K3 DC's. Server #1
doesn't bother me but server #2 does... Can I safely dcpromo an Exchange
server to not be a DC anymore??? It is the only Exchange server in the
site???

Thanks

Good thing you checked! Never dcpromo a server running Exchange - you'll
break it. If you don't want Exchange on a DC, install it on a member server,
move mailboxes & replicate PFs, then follow the procedures to cleanly remove
the first server & uninstall Exchange.

About to remove last Ex2k3 server.. We're entirely Ex2k7 now, save for one Ex2k3 front-end server. It's one of our Internet gateway servers (along with two newly minted Edge servers.) It's not used for RPC or anything else other than passing mail to and from the Internet. Does Microsoft p
