I am running Exchange 2000 on a Windows 2000 Dell PE2550 and keep getting
event ID: 9582 which states that the virtual memory is fragmented. I have
read all of the articles I know of and even after a reboot, the messages
appear in the application log every hour. I have checked and monitored all
of the hardware components (i.e. hard drives, memory, raid controller, etc)
and they are fine. According to Microsoft, this was fixed in service pack 3.
I am on service pack 4 with the sp rollup with the latest Store.exe (version
6.0.6396.1) and Mdbmsg.dll (version 6.0.6396.1) files. Anyone else ever have
this problem?
Thanks,
BP

Are you getting 9582 Errors or Warnings?
Are you running Windows 2000 Standard or Advanced Server?
Do you have the /3GB in place?
Is this machine a DC?
What does EXBPA tell you to do?

Simon, thanks for replying
I am getting 9582 warnings and just this morning, I recieved an event id:
12800 error
I am running Windows 2000 Standard
I only have 2 GB of RAM - Server only has 65 mailboxes
No, this is not a DC
Unfortunately, I'm not running MOM so I can't use EXBPA

On a side note, this server has been running for over 4 years with no
problems until 2 weeks ago.

Hi Brian,
If you are running Exchange with more than 1GB of RAM then you must use the
/3GB switch.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/266096/
That basically means that you must also use Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
There is a bunch of stuff you can try to fine tune your server without a
reinstall:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317411/
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/266768/
but in the long run you may have to go to a Windows 2000 Advanced Server
platform with the /3GB switch to be rid of the 9582 events (or upgrade to
2003 or 2007 of course)
You do not need to use MOM in order to run EXBPA. Download and install it on
your Exchange server to see what it recommends: www.exbpa.com
