What will be the best upgrade path in this case?

My organisation has a Windows 2000 Active Directory and Exchange 2000
environment with all latest SPs. All Exchange 2000 servers are on windows
2000 member servers except one which is running as 2000 DC. This one
running on the DC does not contain mailboxes but only do gatewaying for the
external mails. We have 2 domains, one a place holder domain with 2 DCs and
2nd is the production domain where all or DCs and Exchange 2000 servers are.
We have 7 geographical sites each have thier own DCs and a exchange Server.

We are considering upgrading the Windows 2000 DCs to 2003 DC in the 1st
phase of the project. We don't wanna upgrade the exchange 2000 Servers
during this time but we would like to do that in the 2nd phase where we
would like to upgrade to Exchange 2007. In this case we will bypass Ex 2003
as 2007 is already on the market.

Can anyone suggest the best upgrade path and advise if my above suggestion
could be achieved?

Thank you you good guys for your help

Hi,

No problem achieving most of your goals, but you can't upgrade the DC where
you have exchange 2000 installed as exchange 2000 is not supported/running
on a windows server 2003.
