When trying to uninstall Exchange 2000 SP3 from a Windows 2000 SP4 server
U recieve the following error code 0x80072030.
Exchange Setup Log captures the error:

Error code 0X80072030 (8240): There is no such object on the

server.
[07:41:29] === IGNORING PREVIOUS ERRORS === HrSetProblemOnInstallAction,
while calling ScCheckPrerequisites (K:\admin\src\udog\BO\comboifaces.cxx:1127)
The operation has completed successfully.
[07:41:29] Setup encountered an error while checking prerequisites for the
component "Microsoft Exchange 2000":
0X80072030 (8240): There is no such object on the server.
[07:48:22] CComBOIFacesFactory::QueryInterface
(K:\admin\src\udog\BO\bofactory.cxx:52)
Error code 0X80004002 (16386): No interface.
Found a post that suggested checking the Postmaster account using ADSI Edit.
From ADSI Edit navigated to:
CN=Configuration,DC=SUBDOMAIN,DC=DOMAIN,DC=COM\CN=Services\CN=Microsoft
Exchange\CN=EXCHANGE\CN=Global Settings\CN=Message Delivery
Right Clicked on "CN=Message Delivery" and clicked Properties
Checked the attribute named "msExchAdminMailbox"
Found that this value is pointing to a deleted account.
We'd like to replace this value with our postmaster account which is hosted
on another server. Any reason we should not do this? Any ramifications or
down side to doing this? Has anyone doen this and later had issues within
their exchange enviroment that pointed back to making this change?
Thanks

Hi,
Thank you for posting here.
From you post, I understand that you are unable to remove Exchange 2000
server.
I want to confirm one thing with you:
Did you follow the steps in KB307917 if this is the first Exchange server
in the organization?
How to remove the first Exchange 2000 Server computer from the site
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=307917
If the free/busy information does not work properly, you can reset the
system folders. For the detailed steps, please refer to the following KB
articles:
(Please fully backup your server first.)
How to reset system folders in Exchange Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=822444
XADM: How to Reset System Folders on an Exchange 2000 Server
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=275171
If this is the only Exchange server in your organization, I suggest you
manually reinstall Exchange.
For the detailed steps, please refer to the following KB article:
How to remove Exchange Server 2003 from your computer
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=833396
After that, you need to run setup.exe /removeorg to remove all Exchange
related information in your AD forest.
The REMOVEORG option in Exchange Server 2003

Hope this helps, if anything unclear, please feel free to let me know.
Have a nice day!

Thank you for your response,
But I am just looking to confirm the fix I listed in my orginal post, the
question was listed towards the bottom. Will using ADSIEDIT to change the
msExchAdminMailbox setting result in any problems within our Exchange
envioroment. What is this particular setting used for?

Hi,
Thanks for your update.
I appreciate your per-research on this issue, yes there are some similar
issues occur due to Postmaster account. We may verify this via ADSI Editor
utilty, just like your described. However the solution is only suit some
specific scenario, you may try the steps to troubleshoot this issue, if
this issue remains after the steps, you may follow my previous thread to
continue troubleshoot this issue.
Note: ADSI Editor is included in Windows 2000 Supporting tools.
1. Start ADSI Editor snap-in.
2. In ADSI EDIT, please locate the following container:
CN=Configuration\CN=Services\CN=Microsoft Exchange\CN=\CN=Global
Settings\CN=Message Delivery
3. Please right click on "CN=Message Delivery" and click Properties.
4. Please find the attribute named "msExchAdminMailbox".
The value of msExchAdminMailbox is the user which owns the Postmaster
account.
Please change the msExchAdminMailbox value to another user which mailbox is
hosted in another Exchange Server. For example, I assume that we need to
remove Server A, and the Server B is running now.
Let us find a user which mailbox is located in Server B. I assume this user
is User Chace.
You can use the following method to determine the msExchAdminMailbox value:
a) Please open ADSI Edit and find this user C in the Domains\Users
container.
b) In User C's Properties page, please check the HomeMDB value to ensure it
is in another existing Exchange server.
c) Please check the "distinguishedname" of User C, and copy the value of
"distinguishedname" to msExchAdminMailbox of Message Delivery.
You may need to restart the Exchange Server, and then try to remove again.
Hope this helps, if anything unclear, please feel free to let me know.
Have a nice day!
