Hi,

I have some problem with Exchange server 2000 over WAN connections. The
remote offices connects using DSL 1Mbps link and client retrieve emails
over the WAN connection.

The client is currently using Outlook XP configured to read email from
exchange mailbox. The mailbox is shared by few users of different
remote offices.

Outlook does not download the full message. When the client open a
large attachment(1MB), it will take more than a minute before outlook
will respond to display the email message. Is there a way to speed up
the process.

I have these option in mind
a) Deliver to PST file (The mailbox is shared by few users of different
location. Doing so will result the user will not be in sync for the
email messages)

b) Upgrade WAN link - With latency in mind, will this helps?

c) Upgrade of Exhange server - Unlikely

d) Any tweak so that Outlook XP will download the full message plus the
attachment? I tried to enable offline file and uncheck the option to
limit only message smaller than 50K to download, but it seems does not
help much. Do I miss out anything?

Please help

Thank you.

Not by a huge amount given that the link is 1Mb and there are
presumably other people sharing that link.

Don't even think about it. If you want an Exchange server use it, and
use it properly.

An upgrade will help but yes, latency might be an issue. Not entirely
sure you'll experience any serious issues but I don't have access to
your statistics.

Nothing to do with Exchange.

Outlook 2003 in Cached Mode will fix the visible problem as the
message won't appear until it's available but the utilisation on the
wire won't be much improved.

Hi,

Is it possible to configure Outlook XP to download full message instead
of the "header mode" where only text is downloaded?

Thanks.

Can't remember. Haven't used or seen OUtlook 2002 (XP) for 3 years.
The Outlook group would help you with that one, or you could have a
quick look at the online help.
