Hi Everyone,
I would like some feed back on an exchange server configuration.
Large office that currently has 3 stores and makes good use of public
folders.

Currently the server is an older hp win2k with Exchange 2k3 sp2.
Mirrored drives for OS and a Mirrored set for data.
Much data is stored in the user’s folders. (This is something that will
not change. I do not like it and have said not to use outlook as a
storage system, but that is something at this point I can not change)

Design so far:
HP server Ml350 or DL
Dual Quad Core CPU
4GB RAM
The server will use 6x146GB 15k SAS drives. (Maybe 300GB)
The OS/Exchange Program Files will use the onboard RAID controller for
RAID 1
The other 4 drives will be RAID 1+0 on a second RAID Card and will hold
log files.

An external HP Storage works Enclosure will hold 12 146GB 15k SAS drives
for the Stores.
Possibly a RAID 1+0 setup. (Checking if the box can do this)
I might even go to 300GB drives in this unit and cut out a few drive
sets in a RAID 1 for the page file or split into 3 different Raid sets.
One for each Store. Again, not sure if this HP box can do this yet.

Raid 1+0 was used due to performance and redundancy
Each RAID setup has pro’s and con’s but this looks to be the best way to go.
If someone has another idea, please let me know.
This is still in design phase.
Thanks in advance
