Sent box Outlook Express 5

When I send mail from my outbox it simply disappears from my computer.
Although it is received by the recipient, I have no record of the
transaction or message.
Yes I have ticked the "place message in sent file"
Have also emptied a lot of the sent file into Deleted items
Also uninstalled Norton Antivirus 2003 And installed a freeware alternative.
Defragged and cleaned up c drive.
This happened since the 15.11.04
Any ideas from a desperate person living miles from anywhere and stumbling
to learn?
