Hi -

We have a new Exchange 2007 SP1 installation. All inbound public mail goes
first to a hosted spam scrubber and then to our Exchange box.

Several users have mail forwarded to out-of-domain addresses. All have Exchange
mailboxes and Contacts. The mailbox retains mail and forward a copy to the
contact, which has the out-of-domain address.

If someone else sends to a Distribution List containing these users, the
sender gets a bounce message similar to the one below. The original message
appears to be actually delivered, but the error is confusing to the sender.
Individual messages to the problem users go with out issue.

What is happening and how can I stop the error messages?

This is part of the error:

Delivery has failed to these recipients or distribution lists:
bob.hope@gmail.com
An error occurred while trying to deliver this message to the recipient's
e-mail address. Microsoft Exchange will not try to redeliver this message
for you. Please try resending this message, or provide the following diagnostic
text to your system administrator.
The following organization rejected your message: mx.google.com.

Could be a limitation of this.

Messages that are sent through Exchange 2003 to an external messaging
server are blocked by Sender ID checking

Thanks. Not sure that exactly applies. Could it be that the private address
is being show in the header as in: Received: from ex1.mycompany.com ([10.1.1.32])

When you say "If someone else sends to a Distribution List containing
these users" are you referring to internal users or external users
sending to the distribution list containing those users?

In this case, just internal users. The DLs are set to allow only authenticated
users to send to them. So, to test this I created a new DL with three memebers.
All have forwards to external addresses (all of those are on the same external
domain). When I send to them, only one address generates the error and bounces
back. The message _is_ received by the internal mailbox but is not received
at the forwarded address. The other two members of the DL get this message
in both the internal and the forwarded address.

Any ideas?

thanks.
