Hi,
We've been looking through some of the threads to solve this but no luck so
far. Going to ask here before restoring from a backup.
The problem is that a user's inbox folder is only showing emails received
from Sunday. Nothing prior, though there used to be many spanning back a
couple of years.
The last time the user logged on Office Outlook (2003) on his company
machine was Friday. Then on the weekend he logged on through OWA and realised
emails had dissapeared.
I've checked Outlook views (Messages), filters (none), rules (none), tried
searching for the emails, checked other folder in case they had been moved,
checked delegated folders.
Niether OWA and Office Outlook 2003 show the missing emails.
We are running SBS 2003 SP1 with Exchange 2003 (SP2).
Exchange keeps deleted items for 30 days.
One thing to note is that exchange system manager shows 3228 items for his
mailbox though in Outlook the number of emails is 2515.
Any ideas would be much appreciated before I go restoring from a backup.
Thanks

Did you have a Mailbox Manager Policy run to delete his emails older than x
days? Verify under Recipient Policies in ESM.

See if it is in his recover deleted items dumpster. Highlight deleted
items folder, tools, recover deleted items. Also do that with the
inbox. For the inbox you will need to enable via registry.
Start the registry editor (regedit.exe).
Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client
\Options subkey.
From the Edit menu, select New and click DWORD value.
Enter the name DumpsterAlwaysOn and press Enter.
Double-click the new value and set it to 1. Click OK.
Close the registry editor.

you've searched the dumpster for all folders? sounds to me like maybe his
outlook profile had been configured to deliver mail to a pst file...have
you searched for one?

Hi,
Many thanks for all your suggestions. The results were:
-No recipient policies in ESM for the user's mailbox.
-checked the deleted items dumpster and dumpster for inbox and other
subfolders - the emails weren't here.
-Checked for PST files but couldnt find any.

Do you mean do this through delegating/sharing his mailbox?
Thanks again for the suggestions. Any more would be welcome.
