I have 2 users who use a VPN to access Exchange using Outlook 2003 in cached
mode. The VPN client is Sonicwall.

Both uses only access this 4 or 5 times a month, and about 2 or 3 of those
times they call me saying either they can't connect (showing disconnected) or
they were connected and got "kicked out" (again showing disconnected) and it
won't reconnect.

I've googled, yahood, as well as searched TechNet for possible problems, and
the one I believe the problem seems to be the "Too Many MAPI connections"
problem, as if i stop and restart the exchange store service these users can
connect w/o problem.

The only thing i can't find on this problem is a solution, how can i either
allow my exchange server to have more MAPI connections, or resync them sooner?

I am on SBS2003 (with Exchange 2003 SP2).

Thanks for any assistance.

- Andy

Unless you've got the recalcitrant workstation right in front of you when
this happens (so you can test), it's hard to say. You'd need to try some
testing, or walk them through it, to find out whether it's the VPN tunnel
that's the problem.

Re the MAPI connections, as you haven't stated whether your *local* users
have any problems, it's also hard to say - and restarting the IS if your
non-VPN users are not having problems, surely can't be a good thing.

As you have Exchange 2003 & Outlook 2003 clients, I suggest you try setting
up RPC over HTTP instead and see if it works - you don't need VPN for
secured access to Exchange any longer. Post in
microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs for more help.
