I have tried every suggestion in an earlier thread to be
able to finalize the configuration of Exchange 2000 in
Win2k Active Directory.
I have only been successful in receiving mails from
everyone (LAN or Internet) but I am only able to send
messages on my LAN and when I send outside my LAN, I get
the following error
The message could not be sent because one of the
recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail
address was 'ola_one@yahoo.com'. Subject 'Not Good',
Account: 'Email', Server: 'atb-associates.com', Protocol:
SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for
ola_one@yahoo.com', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server
Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
Please someone direct me, I am getting to my wits end.
Thanks

Hi,
What addresses are you using in the recipient policy??
The error message indicates thet 'atb-associates.com' is not part of a
recipient policy.

If you are talking about the Exchange System Manager, I
have not done anything to Recipients, however, when I
looked, it has 'Default Policy' and Priority is 'Lowest'
When I right clicked on recipient policies and New, then
Recipient Policy, I two options E-mail Address and Mailbox
Manager settings.
Is this where I am suposed to add the information you are
talking about?
If so, what am I supposed to add?
Thanks a lot in advance

Hi,
Yes, you are on the right track. Look in the email tab and see which email
addresses are configured there. The public domain name MUST be one of the
addresses.

What this means is that there was no other policy other
than the default policy in Recipient Policies. What I will
be doing is adding a new one. Is that what you are saying
I should do?
Thanks again

okay, I right clicked the Default Policy, and on the email
tab, I have two policies checked. 1) Type - SMTP Address -
@atb-associates.com 2) Type - X400 Address -
c=us;a= ;p=atb-associates;o=Exchange;
So in essence, the policy is there. Any other suggestion?

Hi,
I just had another look at your original post. Are you by any chance using
POP3 clients on your LAN - that would also explain this message if you
hasn't configured the exchnage server to allow internal clients to relay.
It you are using POP3 clients try to reconfigure these and use exchange
instead. It can be difficult to configure relaying without at the same time
allow spammers to use your server.

It sounds like you are using a pop3 client to send. Exchange 2000 is locked
down by default to only allow authenticated users to relay. SMTP is not an
authenticated protocol by default.
1. Go to tools, account, mail tab, properties, server tab in your Outlook
Express client.
2. The outgoing server requires authentication, and you are required to
click
settings, and put a different account name and password that is required
for
authenticating on the outgoing server. This is typically Network\user
account\mailbox alias.
