Hello,

I posted in the outlook newsgroup but this may be an exchange question. I
have an exchange 2003 server with an outlook 2007 client connected via the
lan. They are seeing grouping issues - some messages not listed when
grouping. Is there a maximum messages you can have in your inbox (not
including subfolders?) They have 68,500 Smile

Hell fire. Yeah, much above 5,000 and Outlook/Exchange is getting
really troublesome. Draw your own conclusions as to the difference
between 5k and 68k.

At about the 5000 item level, there's not enough db cache to cache the 11
default views per folder. This means the views have to be created on the
fly. Besides the annoying delay when you navigate a folder as the views are
generated, the IO on the backend can easily imact all users, not just the
user in question. You can shift the load to the client by using cached
mode, and at least this eliminates the impact to other users, but for the
user in question, the best advice is to organize the mail so that there are
no more than 5000 items per folder.
