I have recently installed a new Exchange 2003 server (sp1) into an
existing Exchange 2000 organisation.
Everything went well with the install, and I can create accounts on the
new server etc, but cannot get any mail or public folder replicas onto
the new 2003 server. I am able to send emails internally and externally
from mailboxes on the new server but cannot receive anything. I am sure
this is due to the Exch 2000 server being setup with a smarthost in the
SMTP Virtual Server. (which is actually running on the same dual-homed
server, so the smarthost is the loopback address)
When I remove the smarthost IP address from both servers' smtp virtual
server entry, and setup an SMTP connector I still can't get anything to
replicate or deliver to the new 2003 server, although outgoing still
continues to work as normal from both servers.
On the 2000 server, IIS is running on port 5593 instead of 80, because
it is dual homed and the web monitoring software (Web Marshal) is
running on port 80. This caused some problems getting into the
properties of the public folders to setup replication, so I had to
temporarily bring down the web access and set IIS back to port 80 to
get into these property pages, however I had to change this back to
allow web access again.
Could the IIS running on a non-standard port have anything to do with
the problem replicating and the non-delivery of emails (both internal
and external) to the new Exch 2003 server?
Any other suggestions for what could be at the root of this problem?
I am able to ping, resolve dns names, connect to A/D roles on other
servers etc, so nothing like that seems to be affecting the server.
Thanks
James
