Eecause of a company merge, we are going to migrate from either GW6.5 to
Exch5.5 or the other way aroud. I found a whitepaper describing the process
at:
http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/techinfo/interop/GWConnector.asp
but it is for Exchange 5.5 and GW5.5.

Does anyone know if the above is possible with GW 6.5 as well?

In order to do the migration - which IP ports are needed to be opened? The
two systems are located at different networks.

Regards, Lars.

Hi Lars,

Your question gets a bit complicated. The very very short answer is 'no':
329041 XFOR: Exchange Support for Novell GroupWise 6
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329041

I've gone in a bit in depth at one point with a groupwise connector
troubleshooting this, and we determined the replication request admin note
we send via the Groupwise Connector is not understood on the Groupwise 6.5
side. I don't know how familiar you are with the Groupwise connector, but
we essentially took a working connector and would take turns stopping and
starting the transport on the Groupwise API Gateway and the Exchange
Connectivity Controller. The messages are passed in between via the file
system and we would open them up and take a peek at what was being sent.

The short of it was the message we sent requesting a directory update from
Groupwise 6.5 would go ignored, but the Groupwise 5.5 system would respond
correctly to this replication request.

I'm sure there are alternative ways around this for a migration, but they
would be more of a direct migration as opposed to a slow co-existance type
migration with a directory exchange taking place on a schedule which is what
the Groupwise connector offers.

There are other migration options available to Exchange including LDAP/IMAP4
style migrations that may work if Groupwise is able to support those
features and you can get it working, but I imagine that it wouldn't be
transparent to the user. I suppose much of how you'll proceed or I would
even reocmmend you to proceed would be heavily dependant on the number of
users you're looking to migrate and how automated you want the operation.

I hope this at least saves you some research and get you exploring in some
different direction. I'll check back here periodically to see if I can
offer any guidance. Smile

-Josh
