I have an Exchange 2000 server running on Windows 2000 as part of an
Exchange 5.5 Organization. On this server, the MTA successfully
starts, works for a few seconds, then generates the two errors noted at
the end of my message. I have tried the steps specified in KB253310
(increasing the RAS LAN-MTA DMOD threads from 2 to 4) to no effect.
This server had been added to the organization some time ago in
preparation for a swing migration to Exchange 2000, but never used. It
then came to our attention that mailboxes on this server were unable to
send or recieve messages, and upon investigation, we found that the
Exchange 5.5 Service Account had been an old account. After changing
it, the MTA began failing in this fashion.
Research has found a number of similar errors, but typically only in
Exchange 4.0 and 5.5, none with the specific error codes listed below.
If anyone has familiarity with these errors, or a condition which can
cause them, your help would be appreciated.
