Good morning,

Can you help me to install and the MSMQ Exchange Connector between a
Exchange 2K and a Windows 2K.

I try to use the mqexchng.exe (under c:\winnt\system32) but I always have
the message:
Setup requires that the Exchange server on be running. (And it's
the case)
How can I force the installation or may found the right way to create the
connector

Thanks

A BRUNO

Are you running the install from the Exchange 2000 server?

MSMQ and the Exchange connector do not need to actually be installed on the
Exchange server.

You can install the connector on any MSMQ independent client or server
(running
on Windows NT Workstation or Windows NT Server), and configure the connector
to communicate though the Exchange server.

(1) Install Microsoft Exchange Administrator.

To install MSMQ Exchange connector in this configuration, you must first
run
Exchange Server Setup from Exchange Server CD, click Complete/Custom,
and select Microsoft Exchange Administrator.

(2) Have the Exchange Administartor user account to setup the Exchange
Connector.

Setup must run under a user account that has administrative permissions on
the
Exchange site. In other words, the user account you log on under before
running setup must have its Exchange site role set to Permissions Admin.

(3) Determine the following before installing an MSMQ Exchange connector:

· The computer name of the Exchange Server the connector will use.

· The name of the Exchange site the MSMQ Exchange connector will support.

· The name of the queue from which the MSMQ Exchange connector will read

incoming MSMQ messages. If the queue you specify during Setup does not
exist,

the MSMQ Exchange connector service creates the queue the first time it
starts.

· The name and password of the user account under which the MSMQ Exchange

connector service runs. The MSMQ Exchange connector service should run
under

a user account that has at least the appropriate permissions in the
Exchange

server's site to function as a connector. This user account must also have
its

Exchange site role set to View Only Admin. This need not be the account
under

which you are running Setup.

· The path to the folder which will store the MSMQ Exchange connector files.

If the folder you specify during Setup does not exist, Setup creates it.

(4) stop and restart MSMQ service

net stop msmq

net stop mqac

net start msmq

(5) To install an MSMQ Exchange connector

1. - you can run setup from Programs->Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack ->

Microsoft Message Queue -> Exchange Connector Setup

or

- Run Setup from the \MSMQ\MQMail\exchconn\setup folder on the Windows NT

Server, Enterprise Edition 4.0 Components CD.

2. Click Continue.

3. Click Install.

4. In Choose Server, type the computer name of the Exchange Server the

connector will use, and then click Continue.

By default, the name of the computer you are using is provided.

5. In Choose Site, click the name of the Exchange site the MSMQ Exchange

connector will support, and then click Continue.

6. In the Install dialog box, provide the name of the Inbound Queue,

Service Account, Service Password, and Service Directory.

In Inbound Queue, type the name of the queue from which the MSMQ Exchange
connector will read incoming MSMQ messages. If the queue does not exist,
Setup
creates it.

In Service Account, type the name of the user account, in the
domain\username
format, under which the MSMQ Exchange connector service will log on.

In Service Password, type the domain password for the user account
specified
in Service Account.

In Service Directory, type the path to the folder which will store the MSMQ
Exchange connector files. For example, C:\exchq. If the folder does not
exist,
Setup creates it.

7. Click Continue.

(6) Start MSMQ Exchange connector service. Once the MSMQ Exchange connector
service is started it creates the Queue with name the queue label.

(7) Create new queue to receive messages and configure the Exchange custom
recipient for this queue

1. Created a new queue with name and label.

2. Assigned the type id to this queue as
{5EADC0D0-7182-11CF-A8FF-0020AFB8FB50}

3. To created Exchange custom recipient for this queue

4. Enter CTRL-R to set up your Exchange custom recipient. This opens NEW
E-Mail

Address dialog box.

5. Select Other address and click OK. This opens Other address properties

dialog box.

6. Enter E-mail address as the label of queue. (This is case sensitive)

7. Enter E-mail Type as the MSMQ. Click OK. This opens a dialog box to
enter

in the custom recipient properties. You can leave most fields blank in
this
dialog box, but you must fill in Alias and Display on the General tab. Keep
the alias as the label of the queue.

8. After entering click OK and you have the Exchange Custom recipient for
this
queue ready to receive message.

(Cool Send message to this recipient by selecting from the address book.

(9) Check if Message is delivered to the queue using MSMQ Explorer.

Hello Bruno,

For a quicker response in the future, please post any future MSMQ related
questions to one of the microsoft.public.msmq newsgroups. Unfortunately
there isn't an MSMQ-Exchange connector that is compatible with Exchagne
2000. The MSMQ-Exchange connector only works with Exchange 5.5, and as far
as I know there aren't any plans to create an updated version for Exchange
2000.

If you need to Exchange data between Exchange 2000 and MSMQ, perhaps
writing your own application would be the simplest way. The MSMQ trigger
service can automatically retrieve incoming messages from a queue, and pass
parts of the message as parameters to an exe or COM component. Your
component could take these parameters (Email Address, Message Body, etc.)
and create a new mail message that gets sent programatically. You could
build the reverse by monitoring a mailbox, and having an application that
reads the messages and assembles them into MSMQ messages.

As far as the current Exchange MSMQ connector, the latest version it will
work with is Exchange 5.5.

Please don't hesitate to ask any more MSMQ/Exchange related questions you
may have.

Muhammed Ismail
