Hope someone can help with this.
I have a remote client; 6 hour drive away; who has tried to send a 11
megabyte .wav file as an attachment. It did not reach it's intended
recipient, so it was sent again.
Now exchange is running slow and various error messages are being received.
Some are from the different recipient's server rejecting other emails.
Before I make the drive out to the client, i need some help on what may be
going on. I suspect the server is continueing to try to send the large
email and is bogging everything down.
Since I've never had problems with Exchange 2000 before, I'm not sure where
I start to purge the failed emailed messages.
Thanks,
Doug Sanders

Does the email show in your Exchange 2000 SMTP VS Queue? What are the error
messages?

I haven't been on the site yet. That will be Monday morning.
I'm trying to find out what to expect.
I did have a local user look at the event logs, but they were all blank,
nothing logged.

You'll need to look and see if the offending message is still there. If the
event logs are truly *blank* then there are some Windows problems. You'll
need to make sure all your services are running, etc.
Don't you have remote access to this server? Seems silly to drive that far
for something like this! Do a Webex or similar if you don't have RD access.

Thanks for the input.
Since I have never had any problems like this with Exchange before, where is
the 'offending message' to be found? In the senders mailbox?
I inherited this client and haven't needed to to do remote access before.
Things have changed and I'll have to get it setup.

No - in the queues.

Indeed. Remote desktop is one built-in way to go....install TS in admin mode
on the server and permit access from your own public IP via TCP 3389.

Thanks to all.
Cleared the queues, compressed the databases, rebooted the server and all
seems to be working.
Re-instructed everyone to keep emails and attachments under 2 megabytes.
Management being the biggest offender.
Thanks again,

Oh - you really don't want or need to do that ...it's not meant for regular
admin use.

That's pretty tiny- I'd do at least 5, even with a very slow pipe. Remember,
there's a lot of 'padding' on your attachments when they finally go through
the server. And, you should be enforcing this on the server rather than
relying on the honor system.

I'll adjust the size the next time I'm out there.
