Arggh! I’m running a pilot Inter-org environment between Exchange 5.5 and
Exchange 2003 (different organisations – we’re migrating to E2K3).

One thing that is driving me mad – all SMTP mail (@companyname.biz) is
usualy handled by a 3rd party smart host which also contains recipients (not
in my Exchange Address List). How the hell can I force Inter-org mail to
flow as if it were intra-site? – Currently all mail to / and from the
Exchange Orgs will go via the smart host… both orgs have their own separate
X400 address spaces obviously..

I’ve tried setting up an X400 connector but mail to and from my inter-org
contacts will go through SMTP instead.. Surely there is a work around for
this!

Comments and suggestions would be most appreciated!!!

Mikey

Dear Mike,

it appears that you,re facing SMTP connector configuration issue. in order
to create inter-organization environment, create additional SMTP connector in
each Exchange organization and point it to the other organization's Exchange
server as its smart host and instead of using * in the SMTP domain use the
other domain name, plus you need to change the weight of the existing SMTP
connector in each organization to 10 instead of 1

Thanks for your reply Raffi, however that doesn't quite work...

On Exchange 2003, creating a SMTP connector (cost 1) to forward all
'companyname.biz' to Exchange 5.5, and a SMTP connector (cost 10) for forward
'*' onto externalrelay.com, AND on Exchange 5.5 IMC add in companyname.biz to
fwd to Exchange 2003 (cost 1) and * to fwd onto externalreplay.com results in
mail transfer between orgs, but not to any mailing lists
(whatever@companyname.biz) hosted on the mail relay on Unix. I get a NDR back
from Exchange saying recipient not recognised..

The end desired result is that any mail sent to recipients hosted on either
Exchange 5.5 or 2003 gets routed internally and does not get passed to the
smart host to come all the way back in again..
