Hello,
I am running Exchange2003+SP1
Is there anyway to monitor large pieces of outgoing emails within Exchange?
The problem we are facing is even though we have limited users from sending
out attachments over 10MB emails with over 50 concurrent users sending
outbound emails our internet connection comes to grinding hault at times.
This also due to the fact we only have about a 386kbps bandwidth to the WAN
Is there any way to tell Exchange when heavy attachments are being sent to
wait in the queue until the previous heavy emails have been sent? I am open
to suggestions
Thanks much-
Vik

Hi Vik,
Please understand that this question appears to be more consulting in
nature. We would like to introduce you to the CSS Advisory Services team.
Advisory Services is a remotely delivered, hourly fee¨Cbased, consultative
support option that provides a comprehensive result beyond your break-fix
product maintenance needs. You may obtain the detail information and
efficient assistance about how to deploy, optimize and secure your company
E-mail system.
For more info in the US and Canada:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=AdvisoryService
Outside of the US/Canada:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=%2finternational.aspx
Here I'd still like to provide you some general suggestions to this
particular issue
Since there is only 386kbps network bandwidth available, I suggest you limit
the SMTP (and POP3) connection number on your Exchange server. If the all
connections have been occupied, new outgoing messages will wait in queue for
a free connection available. To do so:
-- Open ESM, expand Server/Protocol/SMPT
-- Open the properties pane of SMTP virtual server, switch to Delivery tab
and then click "Outbound connection" button
-- Set the connection limit number here, the default value is 1000.
According to your situation, I suggest you decrease it to 50 or lowew.
Hope the info helps.
Regards
Pat Cai

Hi - no need to crosspost to so many groups - usually two or three will
suffice.
OT comment - if you have over 50 users, you really need more Internet
bandwidth than you have. Even if they weren't heavy-duty users, 386k is way
too small to make most companies happy. |

I agree that your connection is way too slow but also 10mb attachments are
very large and will slow down most Exchange servers. Also most people your
emailing will not accept anything that big. I would suggest using some ftp
method to transfer this size of file or doing some zipping or compression to
lower the file size.
