I just installed a FE server with exch 2000 on server 2003. The http virtual
directory on the BE server points to the M:/ drive. The http virtual
directory on the FE server also points to the local M:/mbx drive. Now when I
try to access email via http, the get a 404 error. I assume this is because
the VD points to the M:/ drive on the FE server. But isn't the FE server
supposed to "find" the mailboxes automagically via Active Directory? Why
would this not be happening correctly? There is no documentation about any
further configurations needed on the FE server to make this work.

Thanks

Dave

Hi,

There shouldn't be a need for any additional configuration on a front-end
server - should work out of the box.

You write exchange 2000 on server 2003. This is not a supported
configuration and might very well be the cause of your problem.

Hi,

OK, but you will need to get back to windows 2000 and then we can start from
there. Does OWA work if you connect directly to the backend server?
