|
|
I've been having a problem with newly created users in
the past month - They can't log into Exchange Messenger.
If I sit down at a new computer, log in with my account,
I have no problems. When I then log the new user in to
the same PC, they get the "your username or password does
not match the name of the person logged into this
computer" and the prompt for email address, username,
password, and domain.
I copied an existing user, who can log in to MSN
Messenger. I then waited 24 hours for the email address
to be created by the Exchange policy (I had the time, why
not wait extra?), then I enabled Exchange IM for the new
user.
Even though everyone else works, I've checked my DNS
entries thoroughly. I've also checked the mailbox
permissions for the new account against the original, and
I've verified that the new users are in the local users
group on the exchange server (they're all "Domain Users")
to verify they had access to read the IM DLL
in /exchsrvr/bin
I thought it might be a licesensing issue, so I went
through and revoked the licenses of all the users who
have left the company in the last 3 months (since my last
revocation spree), but that hasn't helped.
Recap:
It's not new computers, it's new users.
I don't use roaming profiles - new user, new profile:
fail. Old user, new profile: works.
Thanks.
Rob

I am having a similar problem. Using Windows Messanger
5.0 and Exchange 2000 with SP3. I recently loaded Instant
Messaging Server on an Exchange 2000 Server that did not
previously have the application and reaplied the SP3
update. I then followed the instructions on all available
material to set up the server on the DNS, checked for
proxies and firewalls (none), updated Internet Explorer,
set the user access rights and enabled IM for the user,
reloaded the sevices and rebooted the machine, loaded
Windows Messanger on the server and attempted to log on
using the user account. Then I activated my account and
logged onto a client computer and got the same responce.
No matter what I try (my email, my email with *im.*
appended, caps no caps, domain with im or www or .com) I
get the same popup: Exchange Instant Messaging Sign-in
Failure
The e-mail address does not match the user name and
password of the person logged in to this computer. Make
sure you provide the correct user name, password and
domain for the e-mail address.
I have searched every Knowledge Base that I can find and
nothing refers to this problem.
Is there a fix for this specific problem?

New info:
I found the exchange SP3a and installed it, then went back
and redid all the installation procedures as laid out in
the Microsoft Exchange 2000 Instant Messaging Setup .pdf.
I am still getting the following message: "Signing in to
Microsoft Exchange Instant Messaging failed because the
password is incorrect or the sign-in name does not exist.
Cehck your sign-in name and password and try again."
When I click retry I am asked for e-mail, user name,
password, and domain. I enter all correct information and
get the same response.
The users are all established users and new user accounts
get the same response. The response shows up on computers
with the same user logged in as is trying to get on WM.
The response shows up on the server when I attempt a IM
login from that computer.
This is a new installation of IM for exchange 2000.
Exchange 2k, IM server, and webserver are all the same
machine so the port is open and nothing has been done to
the firewall. im. host was added to www. host.
What have I missed?
is there an import to IM from Exchange so that it will
recognize the email addresses?
