I need to run an offline defrag due to mass deletion and archiving of email.
Will the defrag reset item counts and folder sizes. Am currently seeing
mismatches in mailbox sizes between Outlook and Exchange System Manager.

That typically requires isinteg to fix those sort of issues.
an offline defrag is generally frowned upon unless you have only one
server and its standard.
Otherwise, you should consider moving mailboxes to another store to
empty out the first store instead.
Less downtime, less risk. |

Thanks Andy..
I have to run an offline defrag to due an impending disk space issue.
There's not enough disk space for a new store right now. I'll be using an
external USB drive for the defrag process.
Should I run the isinteg utility to fix any errors prior to running the
defrag utility?

Run isinteg afterwards using the fix alltests switches.
Run it until any errors go away. Typically 3-4 times.
Store Backups before and after.

Good luck with that. USB ain't SCSI-anything.

Nope. Run it /after/ the defrag -- and run it more than once. The
first time is going to log a ton of fixes. The second pass should
produce fewer (maybe none). You want to run isinteg until there are
either no fixes or errors, or until running it doesn't reduce the
number of fixes and errors.
