|
|
Hi,
i am planning to do inplace upgrade for 2x exchange 2000 BHS to exchange 2003.
The OS windows 2000 will remain.
The setup is.
2x BHS server named as BHS1 and BHS2, only acting as bridgehead.
These servers are added in 2x routing group as "These servers can send mail
over this connector" and also smtp connector as "Forward all mail through
this connector to the following smart hosts".
Fyi, these 2x servers are only member server not a master servers.
======
Appreciate if any one can send me steps to do in-place upgrade of those BHS
exchange 2000 servers to exchange 2003.
Thanks

Hi Leif,
Thanks for your time and effort of answering to my question.
This link will be quite useful for me.
I am still looking for more clarity on following points. Hope you can answer
to these.
1- Consideration prior to upgrade,as these 2 servers are BHS (no FE) only
using for routing emails and configured in 2x routing and 1x smtp connector.
-- I am planning to remove BHS2 from routing and smtp connector, will leave
the BHS1 to handle mail routing, and do the in-place upgrade on BHS2.
-- Add back the BHS2 in routing and smtp connector and remove the BHS1 and
do the in-place upgrade for BHS1 and then add back to routing and smtp
connector.
Is this approach correct?
2- What sort of test or consideration i have to perform prior and after
upgrade to make sure both BHS are working.
-- Check in firewall which server is allowed for mail routing.
-- Any more points will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
If possible your approach "I am planning to remove BHS2 from routing and
smtp connector, will leave
the BHS1 to handle mail routing, and do the in-place upgrade on BHS2"
sounds very good.
After upgrade of one of the servers you could shutdown the other server to
make sure that mail is flowing properly - if it is just upgrade the second
server.
There should be no need for any firewall changes.
