We have to restore some users mailboxes and make them cumulative going back a
year. I have extracted them from the production server using ExMerge. I then
opened each of them in Outlook so that they appear under my mailbox ("ExMerge
- Last, First"). After this I proceeded to restore previous days from backup,
making a folder for each day and each user had his own PST file within them.
My goal was to merge the once-production extracted mailboxes with all these
PST files (per user) restored from backup, ultimately ending up with
mailboxes that spanned the entire year (I know I won't have "transient"
items). The plan seemed to be working, though I had only merged in one day's
worth of PST files by the end of the day yesterday.
However, today when I try to use ExMerge I get the error indicating that I
don't have permissions to the message store (Error opening message store
(MSEMS). Verify that the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is
running and that you have the correct permissions to log on. (0x8004011d)).
The only change I made between yesterday and today was simplifying the path
to the restore, removing subfolders indicating the message store number (was
\\server\drive\recovery storage group\MS1 yesterday; I removed the MS1 today).
The really odd thing is that the only PSTs I can't extract are the ones for
the users I did yesterday. I tried several (though not all) other mailboxes
and could extract them fine. This is what seems to put a kink in the thought
that it's a permissions issue.
I am recreating everything as it was yesterday to see if I just overlooked
something. I have DAYS of work on this left (discovery issue), so I wanted to
see if an outside perspective would help. Thanks.
