I have a client who is using a phone with VersaMail as the client. The
Exchange server is 2003 SP2 running ActiveSync (part of SBS 2003). He gets
a username/password login error everytime he tries to "get" mail. We
compared his VersaMail version and configuration to that of another user
with the same phone and all settings are the same. We tested his phone
using the other user's name/pswd and it connected fine. The original
username/password works fine with outlook and OWA. I have compared
everything I know of in active directory between the two users but cannot
see any difference.

I am assuming that there is a hidden property that is not the same between
the two users, but I don't know how to go about finding what is different.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is the other user connecting to the same Exchange Server?

If negative, I would place my bet on some non-activated service on the
server, or some firewall that is not publishing Activesync, but only OWA.

Yes they are both logging into the same Exchange server.

Are you receiving any errors when the user tries to login? Are you using
SSL to connect with EAS?

The user receives a username/password error on his phone, but there is
nothing entered in any event log on the server that I can find.

As stated in the original message, the same username/password does work with
OWA and a different user's login/password works fine on the phone. I am
assuming that there is corruption somewhere regarding this user. I have
very little experience with the mobile side of Exchange so I don't know
where to start with troubleshooting. I don't know if it is an Exchange
issue or IIS or how to determine where the problem is.

thanks

Strange, very rare its actaully something to do with the account or mailbox.
You could quickly recreate his/her mailbox first. If that does not work,
try recreating the user account.
