Hi,

1 - When I am trying to send mail to a certain domain (i.e.:hotmail.com or
yahoo.com) the
messages stay in the queue, I see the email still trying to send but it
never go.

If I look in the properties I see this error: "The connection was dropped by
the remote host."

2- Another problem is : The mail can reach this domain : telecel.co.za
(exchange 5.5) only during
the night. When i try to send it during the day i get this messages :
Message delivery to the host '196.38.57.82' failed while delivering to the
remote domain 'telecel.co.za' for the following reason: The semaphore
timeout period has expired.

event id 4006

I am running one Exchange server 2003 on windows 2003. For the
rest of the domain it's sending without any problem.

Help

Thanks

AIME

Hi Aime,

For the both of the issues I would suggest doing an NSLookup from the
appropriate Exchange Server and returning the MX records of the domains we
are having an issue sending to. Next do a Telnet session from the Servers to
those domains and see if you can connect to those servers and actually drop
off mail to each one. If this fails the problem is on their side....

I have a similar issue but it occurs routing to internal exchange Servers via smtp connectors.

If you use a smart host on an SMTP connector, why would it attempt to query an MX record? Is there another explanation for the semaphore timeout issue??

I am also having a similar issue. Here is my e-mail setup

Exchange 2k3 (latest sp and all hotfixes) -> IIS SMTP w/ ASSP ->Internet

Exchange is on my internal network, the ASSP server is in the DMZ. Messages get from Exchange to ASSP just fine.

Most e-mails are getting through without a problem. There are a few domains that are dropping our connection, but that is because of reverse-dns lookups on their end (I forgot to get that setup...doh). However, two domains can send e-mail to us, but any e-mails we send to them get stuck in the IIS SMTPsvc with the message semaphore timeout period has expired.

I can connect to mail servers at both domains and drop e-mails manually. This is really boggling my mind, it doesn't help that I am a first time e-mail admin to boot.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
