I'm using Outlook 2002 connecting to an Exchange 5.5
server. I can only view my mail messages when I'm
connected to the network, a real pain when I take my
laptop on the road.

How can I get Outlook to download my mail messages
instead of leaving them on the server? Is there a danger
in downloading the msg's locally?

tks,
steve

Yes, there's danger - you will most likely end up removing messages from the
server, and will be using a PST which won't be backed up. Instead, configure
your profile to use an Offline Folder (OST file) to sync to so you can see
them when you're off the network.

Excellent, I appreciate the recommendation, it works
great. Since I used the OST file does that mean if I
check my mail from a second computer it will download all
the msg's that are stored on the Exchange server?

There's no downloading involved - you're opening the mailbox. You don't have
to sync to an OST file on every (or indeed, any) computer) - just sync on
whatever one you like (such as a laptop or home computer).
