Greetings all,

I'm using Exchange 2003 SBS on a Win2K3 SBS machine.

I'm trying to set up two SMTP connectors to route outbound mail through and
I want emails from one user to go through one connector and all other
messages to go through the other connector. Here's what I've done so far:

Set up SMTP Connector #1, Cost = 1, set to Reject All Messages by default
and only allow them from User #1.

Set up SMTP Connector #2, Cost = 10, set to Reject All Messages by default
and only allow them from User #2.

Applied the registry amendment as listed in MS Q277872 to enable deilvery
restrictions.

Restarted the Exchange routing services.

No cigar. Since setting up SMTP Connector #2, emails from all users are
being routed through that regardless of delivery restrictions and the fact
it has a higher cost. Delivery restrictions seem to do absolutely nothing
and emails are simply routed through the most recent SMTP connector that I
created.

Anyone got any ideas/pointers?

TIA
Alex Clark

SMTP Connector Myth: Messages are always routed over SMTP Connectors with
more specific address spaces

In this case both address spaces for both SMTP connectors are identical
though. The only thing that distinguishes my two SMTP connectors is (1)
Cost value and (2) restrictions on who can use them.

Let me put forth a different example. If I was to set up just one SMTP
connector that has delivery restrictions set up so that messages from
everyone are rejected by default and only to allow messages from one user
(bob), I can still get it to send emails from other users. This is clearly
incorrect behaviour - what good is the delivery restriction if Exchange
ignores it?

All I'm trying to do is get different users to use different SMTP Connectors
based upon delivery restrictions alone - all other settings can be identical
for all I care. If that's not possible, it begs the question of what on
earth delivery restrictions actually do?
