I have a WIn2k OS with E2K Cluster with an MSA500 array for the database,
quorum, H: and G: drives.

The second node of the cluster has never worked. It won't failover.

I have to apply the DST for Exchange on it. (We bought the Exchange patch)

I tried to take the Cluster offline, but it hung up everytime I did it. To
the point where I could not get into the Cluster administrator. After a
couple reboots and tinkering, I finally got everything working again. The
main error when trying to start the cluster service was RPC was not started.

** My question is, since I am having so much trouble with the cluster can I
bring the server up in smart mode and apply the patch. The patch says that
the cluster service needs to be stopped and all resources in it stopped in
order to apply that patch.

Any ideas would be great, or if you think my smart mode plan would work,
then that would be ok. According to the DST patch it updates the Store.exe
file and all CDO components.....

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Hi,

If the cluster service won't start you can try to disable to service and
then restart the server. After the restart you apply the fix and then set
the cluster service back to automatic startup mode.
