I have an issue with several sites running MS Exchange Servers that cannot
send to other Exchange server sites. The issue seems to have started toward
the end of November and seems to be a problem sending from newer Exchange
servers to older one. For example, one site with Exchange 2000 cannot send
to another site with 5.5 but they can receive from them. However, they can
send to another site with Exchange 2003 but cannot get a reply. There are 3
different antivirus solutions at these various sites and I have disabled the
service to no avail so this does not appear to be the problem. A packet
sniffer indicates that the email times out 5 minutes after the initial
contact. A delivery status notification email from the postmaster is sent
back to the user after a period of time indicating the message has been
delayed with status of 4.4.7. The emails never do arrive at the destination.
We have rolled back several of the Windows updates going back to around then
but have not found the solution yet. Any ideas?
