We have two users who cannot empty the Deleted Items folder in OWA.
They receive "An error occurred while trying to empty the Deleted Items
folder.", in both Firefox and Windows IE 7.0 clients.

The Deleted Items can be deleted individually, but the icon to empty the
Deleted Items folder causes the error, even if the folder is empty. We're
Exchange 2000 SP4.

Thank you for any assistance.

Well - I saw this:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822696 (but it mentions Exchange 2003, and
also wouldn't explain why this is happening only to two users).

Also perhaps....

http://forums.msexchange.org/m_1800405527/printable.htm

Other than that, I can't find anything that mentions a fix, although I can
see several posts asking for one. If you can't get to the bottom of it, you
might exmerge them out, delete & recreate their mailboxes, and then exmerge
them back in (excluding deleted items).

Thanks for spending time thinking about this.

KB 822696 is caused by an improper server name; that's not the case here.
We don't uses S/MIME, and it sounds like either a user could delete messages
or not (but not the case we have, where they can delete them individiually
but not empty the folder).

I already did a Mailbox Move across stores, which is pretty similar to an
Exmerge.

I'm afraid the next step is paid tech support, or increasing HTTP logging
and hoping something pops up.

I'd still try that.

Have a look in your IIS logs, and see if a DELETE request is received by the
server when you try to empty the deleted items folder in OWA. If it's there
(note that the times are in GMT), then what is the response at the end of
the logged line?
